Beyond ISO 14001: TMGA awarded EMAS Certification .
TMGA, Terminales Marítimos de Galicia, has been awarded EMAS environmental management certification. . It allows the environmental impact to be assessed, improved in quantitative and qualitative terms, and officially recognised in a transparent manner.
TMGA is thus going a step further than the ISO 14001 and seeks to encourage other entities to ensure correct environmental attitudes and work, by making them see that it is not complicated to contribute to a sustainable approach to the activity.
Even though the implementation of an EMAS Environmental Management System is completely voluntary, TMGA decided to sign up to it as it considers the system to be the best instrument to give full transparency to its commitment to society to carry out its business activity with the least possible impact on the environment.
The European EMAS - Eco-Management and Audit Scheme defines an international “Premium” environmental management and audit model for organisations to assess, inform and improve their environmental performance. It covers all economic sectors and is applicable worldwide. EMAS is based on the ISO 14001 standard, even though it contains its own requirements that make it a model of excellence for environmental management.
Furthermore, TMGA has renewed its ISO 9001:2015 “Quality Management System” and ISO 14001:2015 “Environmental Management System” certifications, after passing the Lloyds Register audits.
